Endoscopic Glomus Tumor Excision

Endoscopic technique is one of the minimally invasive techniques which has gained popularity over years due to its excellent optics, visualization and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Endoscopes provide better visualization of the middle ear, ossicles, eustachian tube orifice and other hidden areas of middle ear.
A short surgical time and cosmesis are the other benefits of endoscopic surgeries.
Glomus tympanicum is a vascular tumor of the middle ear. To our knowledge only very few cases of glomus tympanicum have been excised using endoscopic technique worldwide.
52 years old lady a case of Glomus Tympanicum- Right (vascular tumor of middle ear) presented to us with complaints of decreased hearing and ringing sensation in the right ear for past 6 months. When the treatment options were discussed, patient and her family members were concerned about the large scar and long duration of hospital stay and immobilization after surgery. Hence the option of minimally invasive Endoscope assisted removal of tumor was suggested. Patient underwent endoscopic excision of the glomus tumor and the mass was completely removed with preservation of vital structures. She was mobilized on the same evening and was discharged the next day.
Dr. Satish Nair incorporates endoscopic technique (ENDOSCOPIC GLOMUS TUMOR EXCISION) for all the ear surgeries like tympanoplasty (repair of ear drum), ossiculoplasty (repair of ossicles and ear drum), stapedotomy (fixation of stapes), cholesteatoma surgery (removal of unsafe disease) and endoscopic benign tumour surgery (glomus tumour) on day-to-day basis.
